Apple has released their third quarter, fiscal 2006 financial report. They sold whopping 1.3 million Macs (50% to new switchers) and 8.1 million iPods. In case you’re wondering, that’s about 1 iPod per second. It’s good to see Apple doing well. Their revenues were US$4.37 billion, and they made a profit of $472 million. That means plenty of money for R&D and new product development. Reports look sunny for next quarter as well.

The Apple Corps (the record label of the Beatles) versus Apple Computer (the company that makes Macs and iPods) lawsuit has come to an end. The dispute came about when Apple Corps said that the iTunes Music Store violated an earlier agreement which stated that Apple Computer would not get into the music business. A British judge has decided in favour of Apple Computer – read the full legal decision.

According to Think Secret, Apple’s much-awaited iBook replacement, the MacBook, will be announced on Tuesday, May 9th. The rumoured MacBook will sport a 13.3 inch display, and will be thinner than current iBooks. It will also be available in iPod colours – black and white. The bad news? Like the Intel Mac mini, you’ll see a slight bump up in prices.

One of the largest groups developing Mac software (outside of Apple) is Microsoft’s Mac Business Unit. They are mainly responsible for Microsoft Office, Messenger, and Virtual PC. More businesses than ever are looking at switching to the Mac. According to The Wall Street Journal, one of them is Aozora Bank in Japan, which is planning to convert all 2,300 desktops in their organization to Macs.
