Much ado about online banking

October 8th, 2007 morituri2

Where do you put your hard-earned money? I mean, besides buying new outdoors and emergency preparedness gear. My salary from my day job and most of my online earnings go to my savings account. I used to have current accounts, but not any more. I really don’t have much use for cheques, and most payments can be made online anyway.

The things that annoy me the most are bank charges. Most bank fees are old-fashioned and outdated. For example, how much does your bank charge for a returned cheque? My charges $25. I don’t believe this is justified in this day and age, especially since everything is managed electronically at the back end.

Nowadays I do most of my banking through an online savings account. I get a little bit of interest, no unnecessary charges, and I can check my balance any time I want.
