New Apple laptops to come tomorrow
Tomorrow, October 14th 2008, Apple will hold a special event — and it’s made clear that this is a laptop event. There are many rumours going out at the moment, for example:
- there will be a new, unified laptop line. No more Macbook or Macbook Pro distinction.
- the new laptops will feature a new process to create the casing, which will come from a solid block of aluminium (hence the name “The Brick”).
- Apple will drop Intel in favour of Nvidia for the chipsets.
Another rumour which I hope will be true, is a new, all-time low entry price of US$800 for the Macbook. While the price point will mean low margins, it could open up Apple’s products to a whole new group of customers, especially those who want a Macbook to complement their iPhones.
Personally, my iBook has gone past its 3 year birthday and is on its last legs. So I’m actively looking for a replacement. Hope Jobs, Ive & co don’t disappoint!
