Apple Inc has announced another solid round of financial results for the previous quarter. Macs are still selling well, despite the fact that Apple no longer has the word “Computer” in its name. Apple sold 2.164 million Macs and 10.2 million iPods. They sold 1.119 million iPhones during the quarter, bringing the total to almost 1.4 million. That’s still far away from their target of 10 million iPhones, but it’s a good start.
Apple and Orange (France Telecom) have finally ironed out all the kinks in their deal. Apple has announced that the iPhone will be available in France from November 29th.

The wait is (almost) over. Apple has confirmed that its latest operating system, Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, will be released at 6pm on October 26th, 2007. Leopard will cost the same as previous versions of Mac OS X, $129. Steve Jobs says : “Everyone will get the ‘Ultimate’ version.”

In response to Amazon’s 99 cents DRM-free MP3, Apple is dropping its pricing on its own DRM-free tracks. Most of the 256kbps AAC tracks are now down to 99 cents (from $1.29 previously). Upgrades (from DRM to non-DRM) are still 30 cents a pop.
Well, that didn’t take long at all. iPhone hackers have managed to jailbreak the latest iPhones using the 1.1.1 firmware. “Jailbreaking” is the act of modding your iPhone to enable it to run third party applications.

Apple’s Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard is set to arrive later this month. ThinkSecret reports that at the same time, or soon after, Apple will update its MacBook line as well. The MacBook was a semi-successor to the popular iBooks, but to date Apple has not released a smaller form factor notebook computer with 12 inch screens.
I do a lot of my shopping online. In fact, most of my electronics purchases are made online. While online stores offer a lot of convenience and choice, sometimes the prices are just about the same as retail stores. Plus, you can’t really bargain online.
