It’s probably a massive coincidence, but you can insert your favourite conspiracy theory here. Suddenly, we have multiple options for unlocking the iPhone : two software methods, one by modifying your SIM card, and one messy method involving soldering your iPhone’s insides, clicking your heels 3 times and praying really really hard. It’s been a while since I made any changes to MacObsession. Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve made several updates “under the hood”, for example upgrading to the latest versions of MySQL and WordPress. The final touch is both for cosmetic and performance reasons. I hope the site loads much faster now, and is nicer to look at. Expect a few changes now and then as I tweak and tinker.
Apple is holding a Special Event on September 5th. So, what do you think they could be talking about this time? Since we just had an event with new iMacs, iWork, iLife and an updated Mac mini, what else is left? Well, we still haven’t seen any new iPods or iPod nanos featuring sexy iPhone-like features. Now that the Apple iPhone is out, the older 5.5 generation plain iPods are looking a bit, well, plain. Apple is notorious for controlling the prices of its products, but in the past few days the iPods have had a price drop, for example, $10 off the 30GB iPod and $20 off the 80GB iPod. Read more…
Apple has released a few new software updates. The Apple iPhone 1.01 firmware update comes just over a month after the device was released. You can get the iPhone update via iTunes. The update doesn’t address the long list of bugs that have been compiled elsewhere, but specifically fixes a critical Safari bug that allowed malicious users to take control of an iPhone.
Was it only a few years ago that people claimed that digital music would never take off? The labels wanted restrictive DRM (digital rights management) and high prices, while the consumers wanted no DRM and low prices. Somehow Apple managed to bridge the two and guess what? Digital music sells. In fact Apple has sold a kajillion songs already. Well, actually, 3 billion songs, but after a billion, who’s counting? Read more…
