140,000 Apple iPhones activated in June

Apple’s partner for the Apple iPhone, AT&T, saw an immediate positive impact from the collaboration for last quarter. AT&T just released their previous quarter results: revenues up 86.7%, profits up 61%. Within just 1.25 days (since the iPhone went on sale on June 29th), AT&T gained 140,000 customers with the iPhone. Of course, not all of these are new customers, and the number is well below the analyst-inflated figures (there was one report saying that the number went to a whopping 700,000).
Om Malik has a good point : even 140,000 is quite impressive. In just 30 hours, AT&T activated 82 iPhones per minute. Considering a number of people reported activation issues, and a lot of people bought 2 iPhones, the July figures should look even better.
