
Looks like everyone’s panicking over the recent spate of laptop explosions. Following Dell’s massive battery recall, Apple is following suite. If you have a Powerbook G4 or iBook G4, then take a look at the Apple Battery Exchange Program. This program is for batteries manufactured by Sony.
There’s also a previous Apple Battery Exchange Program for batteries manufactured by LG Chem, Ltd. of South Korea.

Now that Virtual PC is dead for the Mac, it’s gone and forgotten. Parallels Desktop has shipped over 100,000 copies so far – it’s a runaway success for sure. Now Apple has released the latest version of Boot Camp, version 1.1 beta. Boot Camp allows users to startup into Microsoft Windows on Intel-based Macs. This version offers many updates and is intended for all new and previous Boot Camp beta users.

Apple’s Mac Pro was announced at the World Wide Developer’s Conference keynote presentation earlier this week. Steve Jobs mentioned that the Mac Pro was available immediately, so we have just seen several early reviews of the new “fastest Mac ever”. Eric Bangeman of ArsTechnica has written an 8-page review, complete with benchmarks.

Just in time for WWDC, Microsoft has released a security update for Microsoft Office v.X for Mac. This update fixes product vulnerabilities in Office v. X that an attacker can use to overwrite the contents of your computer’s memory with malicious code.

As expected, Apple unveiled new machines to complete the transition of their entire product line-up to Intel processors. The Apple hype machine is strong on the PowerMac replacements (known as Mac Pro
) – they are billed as “the fastest Mac ever” and “a system so powerful and expandable that it meet and exceeds your wildest dreams”. This is the desktop that design professionals and Mac fans have been waiting for.

Today, Mac geeks and developers converge in San Francisco for WWDC 2006 – Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference. There’s a lot of value in the conference, from presentations, hands on sessions and labs, to feedback forums. Of course, for everyone else, it’s the culmination of intense speculation over the past several months. WWDC might as well be What is Apple going to release and When can I get that Damn shiny new Computer? In a few more hours we’ll soon find out. We know for sure that for his keynote Apple CEO Steve Jobs will talk at length about Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard (aka “Vista 2.0″). The question is, what else will be revealed?

Ahead of the World Wide Developer’s Conference next week, Apple has released the latest Security Update for Mac OS X. Security Update 2006-004 deals with many issues in Mac OS X Panther & Tiger, for both Client and Server editions. The update affects AFP Server, AppKit, ImageIO, Bluetooth Setup Assistant, Bom, DHCP, dyld, fetchmail, gunzip, Image RAW, LaunchServices, OpenSSH, telnet, WebKit, and AppKit.
