
Apple has released two new software updates, one for iTunes (6.0.5) and another for iPods (iPod Updater 2006-06-28). iTunes 6.0.5 just enables the syncing of Nike+iPod workout data to nikeplus.com. The iPod Updater includes new iPod software 1.1.2 for iPod, new iPod Software 1.2 for iPod nano, and new iPod Software 1.1.4 for iPod shuffle. This also several bug fixes and support for Nike + iPod support.

Apple has released the latest Tiger update, Mac OS X 10.4.7 which includes many small changes and fixes ranging from AFP networking issues to various syncing changes. The more detailed update page lists many fixes with specific Apple and third party applications including Mail, iChat, iSync, the Finder, Adobe’s CS2, network cards from Sierra, additional networking issues, Apple’s Xsan, and more.

Apple has released the Universal version of its compositing software, Shake 4.1. Shake 4.1 delivers significant performance gains on the new Intel-based Macs, including the Mac mini, iMac, MacBook Pro and MacBook. inal Cut Studio editors can now take advantage of Shake for sophisticated 3D compositing, keying, image tracking and stabilization. The price of Shake has also been reduced, all the way from US$2,999 to just $499. Shake version 3 previously cost $4950.

Most of the late-model PowerPC-based Macs included Bluetooth as a standard feature. If you have one of those, then download Bluetooth Firmware Update 1.2.1 from Apple. The update improves Bluetooth performance and reliability issues. The update weighs in at 1.4MB, and you need Mac OS X 10.4.6.

Microsoft has released the Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.2.4 Update, the latest version of the company’s productivity software suite. This update fixes vulnerabilities in Office 2004 for Mac that an attacker can use to overwrite the contents of your computer’s memory with malicious code. This update also fixes issues in Microsoft PowerPoint 2004 and Entourage 2004, and it includes all of the improvements released in all previous Office 2004 updates.

In another sign of impending doomsday, college kids are choosing iPods over beer. What are those kids drinking – Kool Aid? In a study done by Student Monitor, 73% of students surveyed said iPods were “in” – more than any other item in a list that also included text messaging, bar hopping and downloading music.
