Rumour : MacBook coming in May?

April 9th, 2006

Apple iBook Notebook 12.1\

My daily workhorse, a G4 iBook, is just over one year old – and it’s still going on strong. It replaced another iBook which served me well for 3 years. So in my normal upgrade cycle, there’s still 18-24 months of life in my iBook yet. While the jury is still out whether the Intel-based iBook is going to be renamed as the MacBook (or remain as iBook), it looks like the new machine is coming soon. ThinkSecret reports that the iBook replacement with 13.3 inch widescreen display is coming in May. At this point, there are still more questions than answers.

The questions :
- will it be called the iBook or MacBook?
- what is the fate of the 12 inch PowerBook?
- will it have an integrated iSight camera?
- will the entry-level pricing be more than US$1000?
- will it have a version with the Core Duo processor?

Apple has done a solid job with the Intel Mac offerings so far – the iMac, Mac mini and MacBook Pro. I hope the MacBook/iBook will be more of the same!
