Mac OS X 10.4.3 Tiger [DVD]

Two security updates in one month! Looks like Apple’s engineers have been busy patching up Mac OS X, and they have released Security Update 2006-002. This update fixed flaws in Mail and Safari, among others. There are separate updates for Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) and 10.3 (Panther).

Apple Mac mini with Intel Core Solo review

Clint Ecker of Arstechnica has a review of the Intel Mac mini. He covers the low-end Mac mini, which has a 1.50GHz single core Intel Core Solo CPU and 512MB RAM. Among other things, the HD video playback capability was tested with 480p, 720p and 1080p resolutions.

Upgrading the new Intel Mac mini processor

One of the unexpected features of the new Intel Mac mini is that the processor is socketed – i.e., you can upgrade it yourself. Fugger from XtremeSystems did the Apple Core Solo to Core Duo upgrade.

Inside the new Intel Mac mini

inside Intel Mac mini

Macworld received a brand new Intel-powerd Apple Mac mini, and they wasted no time opening it up. At first glance there’s not much change compared to the previous PowerPC versions of the Mac mini. New things to note include the SATA interface for the hard drive, dual SODIMM RAM slots, and apparently upgradeable processors.

New iPod Hi Fi Boom Box, Mac mini

Looks like the rumours did reveal some truth – although I’m certain many people were disappointed with Apple’s (lack of) announcements. So – no Mac tablets or smartphones or “true” video iPods. What we get is an iPod accessory, some iPod cases and new Mac minis.
